Naomi Richman is a practicing psychoanalytic psychotherapist. Over the past two and a half years, she has been training therapists in Ukraine. In this talk, she will discuss different forms of trauma and what she encountered working in a war zone.
Please bring some paper and a pen for a short exercise.
From your own experiences with trauma, we will develop an understanding of how ongoing trauma, intergenerational trauma, and combat trauma have different impacts.
She recommends reading “Emotional Inheritance” by Galit Atlas as highly readable, not just for professionals. (Available in paperback.)

Biography
Naomi Richman has been a practicing, teaching and consulting psychoanalytic psychotherapist for over five decades. Much of her early work was in the area of psychiatric emergency. She was a supervisor at the Marin Crisis Service and ran Napa County Psychiatric Emergency. This work gave her a strong background in acute and developmental trauma, essential for the work of training therapists in Ukraine. There, she was first part of the International Center for Mental Health and Human Rights. This last year, she was with the newly formed International Institute for Trauma Studies, working remotely with faculty at the University in Vinnytsia, Ukraine and the Ukrainian Military Hospital. She has a private practice in Petaluma.
